BACOLOD City – Two boys died while another was wounded after their motorcycle figured in a road accident in Barangay Mabini, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental last Saturday.

The names of the two fatalities aged 11 and 16 were withheld, as well as the 13-year-old wounded motorcycle driver.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Gil John Despi, city police chief, said the victims on board a motorcycle driven by the 13-year-old boy were on their way home to get some mangoes when they overtook a 6×6 truck loaded with sugarcane.

“Kay tungod overspeeding, nawad-an control sa motor kag natumba,” Despi said, adding that the three riders were thrown off.

They were not wearing helmets, thus two of them suffered head injuries when they hit the pavement, Despi said.

Despi said the 11-year-old boy died on the spot, while the 16-year-old boy expired at the hospital the following day.

The wounded minor, on the other hand, was already discharged from the hospital due to minor injuries, the police chief added.

Since the accident might be considered self-inflicted on the part of the victims, Despi said the truck driver was released from police custody, following a settlement between the truck owner and the victims’ families.
