BACOLOD City – Two motorcycle riders were killed in separate road accidents here and in Negros Occidental over the weekend.
In Bacolod, a 45-year-old man died after he collided with a pick-up truck in Barangay Pahanocoy last Friday.
Police withheld the name of the victim, who is a resident of Barangay Alijis here.
Captain Melvin Mercado, head of Police Station 8, said the victim reportedly overlapped on the lane of the pick-up truck.
The pick-up truck driver swerved to avoid the motorcycle, but the latter suddenly returned to its lane, causing a head-on collision, the station commander added.
Mercado said the victim was then run over by the vehicle which caused his instantaneous death.
Mercado said that both parties have yet to meet for a settlement.
The following day in Calatrava town, a former seafarer died after he crashed into a motorcycle and a multi-cab parked in Barangay Patun-an.
Police identified the victim as Rodvel Son, 48, of Barangay Suba.
Major Ronald Santillan, town police chief, said the victim was riding his motorcycle on his way home when he lost control while traversing the curved part of the road.
Santillan believed that the victim might have not estimated his speed which caused him to swerve and hit the parked vehicles.
The victim was not wearing a helmet and suffered head injuries, according to Santillan.
