BACOLOD CITY – Two newborns were found dead in separate villages in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, on Dec. 25 and 26.
Police Lt. Stephen Polinar, public information officer of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo), reported that the first incident occurred in Barangay Daro, where a decomposing body of a baby girl was discovered in a canal on Christmas Day.
The following day, another newborn, whose gender has yet to be determined, was found lifeless at a dumpsite in Barangay Candau-ay.
Polinar stated that authorities have no leads yet on the parents of the infants. If identified, they may face charges of infanticide, pending further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Both babies were laid to rest at a public cemetery in Barangay Bagacay, Polinar added.
