Two Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who returned to Tigbauan, Iloilo province tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), local authorities confirmed on Saturday.
According to Tigbauan Mayor Suzette Alquisada, the two OFWs were the first two COVID-19 cases in the municipality.
Alquisada said the repatriated OFWs arrived in Iloilo last April 9, 2020.
“Ang duha naton ka positibo nga OFWs nga nag-abot last April 9, 2020. Asymptomatic sila nga duha ukon wala sila may nabatyagan nga symptoms sang Covid-19,” she said in a video issued on Saturday.
The Department of Health Center for Health Development in Western Visayas (DOH-CHD 6) confirmed the two new cases in Tigbauan, Iloilo.
In a bulletin issued on Saturday, DOH-CHD 6 identified the two cases as WV Patient No. 46 who is a 24-year-old male and WV Patient No. 47 who is a 26-year-old male. The two patients are under a facility-based quarantine.
The bulletin also logged an additional case in Iloilo City involving a 77-year-old female from Jaro district. She is also under home quarantine.
DOH-CHD 6 also released another health bulletin on Sunday confirming an additional case in Antique. The patient is a 68-year-old male from Pandan, Antique and is undergoing home quarantine.
Over the weekend, four new cases were recorded in Western Visayas bringing the total to 49 with seven deaths and eight recoveries.
Iloilo province has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 18 with four deaths and three recoveries.
Out of the 18 patients, eight are under home-quarantine while two are in facility-based quarantine. One patient remains admitted in a hospital.
