Two persons drown in river

BACOLOD City – Two persons died after they drowned in separate rivers here and in Negros Occidental last Tuesday.

In Bacolod, Victor Moreno Jr., 32, of Barangay Mansilingan here, a construction worker, was found lifeless at the seashore of Purok Sigay, Barangay Singcang-Airport here.

Captain Melvin Mercado, head of Police Station 8, said the victim went fishing in Mansilingan river and tried to swim to the other side, but he was carried away by the strong water current.

In Hinigaran town, Arnold Billojan, 48, of Barangay Aranda, was reported missing on July 25 while he was sitting near a river.

Captain Leonel Adolacion, deputy chief of Hinigaran Municipal Police Station, said the victim was found dead in Barangay 2, Quincihan the following day.

Police believed that the victim possibly fell into the river and his body was carried away by the strong river current to the sea.

Bacolod City and the province have been experiencing heavy rains brought about by Super Typhoon “Egay” since July 24.
