Two persons died while two others were injured after two motorcycles collided in Janiuay, Iloilo late afternoon of March 28.

Police identified the fatalities as John Marino, 33, of Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay and Josepino Jajeno, 60, of Barangay Cahahiguican, Pototan town.

Marino’s wife and back rider, 32-year-old Analyn, and Jajeno’s son, 20-year-old Mark Joseph, suffered serious injuries but survived the incident.

Police reports indicated that the Marino couple came from Madong village and on their way to the town proper when their Rusi motorcycle collided with another Rusi motorcycle driven by Mark Joseph.

The Jajeno father and son came from Lambunao.

Mark Joseph allegedly overtook a tricycle while navigating Jibolo village. As he was speeding to get ahead of the tricycle, Mark Joseph encroached the opposite lane and crashed into the other motorcycle.

All motorcycle riders were not wearing crash helmets.

They were rushed to Federico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District Hospital but John Marino and the older Jajeno were declared dead on arrival.

It was not yet known if charges would be pursued against Mark Joseph, who was blamed for the road mishap.
