Two riders died following a road accident on the evening of October 26 in Zarraga, Iloilo.
The victims were identified as Lorman Almarel, 33, the motorcycle driver, and his backrider, Kennery Fernandez, 32, both residents of Barangay Sigangao, Zarraga.
Reports said the two were heading toward Zarraga town proper when the accident occurred around 9:50 p.m.
It was raining at the time, and witnesses said the victims were speeding while navigating Barangay Sigangao. They overtook the town’s police patrol vehicle shortly before the crash.
After crossing a bridge, their motorcycle suddenly bounced, causing Almarel to be thrown off and Fernandez to fall in the middle of the road.
Both sustained multiple injuries.
It was reported that neither victim was wearing a protective helmet at the time of the accident.
Members of the Zarraga Emergency Response Team rushed them to Don Jose Monfort Medical Center in Barotac Nuevo.
Almarel was declared dead at 10:05 p.m., and Fernandez died 15 minutes later.
