BACOLOD CITY – Two suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in a clash with military troops in the remote area of Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, yesterday.

According to a report from Lieutenant Colonel J-jay Javines, head of the Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (ID), the 94th Infantry Battalion (IB) encountered at least five alleged remnants of the dismantled Central Negros Front 2 at around 8:40 a.m.

The clash occurred when the military responded to information about the presence of an armed group allegedly collecting food in Sitio Pisok, Javines said.

The fatalities included a man and a woman, both of whom have yet to be identified by authorities.

Military troops recovered two long firearms from the scene, including an M14 and an M16 rifle.

As of this writing, the Army has yet to provide further details regarding the encounter.
