Legendary volleyball figure Jorge Edson Souza de Brito of Brazil will be taking his coaching prowess to the Philippines.
The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) announced that the Brazilian coach will be reinforcing the PH women’s volleyball team alongside head tactician Odjie Mamon.
No stranger to the brightest of lights in the sport, Souza de Brito won his first Olympic gold during the 1992 Barcelona Olympics as a player and notched another gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics as a coach.
It all started when the PNVF headed by president Ramon “Tats” Suzara requested the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) if they can tap the services of the Brazilian coach for two years.
The FIVB then granted the PNVF’s request and is set to finalize the terms and conditions between the PH and coach Souza de Brito’s two-year tenure.
“With coach Jorge’s vast experience as a coach and player, we are very sure that we will get the technology transfer we have aspired for,” said Suzara.
Souza de Brito is already a household name in the world of volleyball after delivering championships to some clubs in Brazil, Turkey, and Japan.
