Two construction workers were killed after their vehicle collided with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) early evening of Nov 12, 2020 in Carles, Iloilo.

Police identified the fatalities as Bernabe Daradar, 32, the motorcycle driver and resident of Barangay Mamhut Sur, Balasan, Iloilo; and Daniel Benedicto, 25, of Barangay Lantawan, Sara, Iloilo

Daradar’s other backrider, Jobel Lemocito, 21, of Barangay Paralian, Maayon, Capiz, was injured but was discharged from the hospital hours later.

But Captain Francis Albert Fortunado, Carles police chief, said Lemocito’s family might bring him back to the hospital.

According to reports, the three victims came from a funeral wake.

Fortunado said it is possible that they were drunk when the incident happened.

They were navigating a curved road at Barangay Cawayan, Carles, when they overshot and encroached the opposite lane and crashed into a Ford Everest driven by John Mark de Guzman, 27, of Barangay Dayagan, Carles.

“The motorcycle could have been speeding and miscalculated when they navigated the curve,” Fortunado said.

The victims were rushed to Jesus Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan, Iloilo but Daradar and Benedicto were declared dead on arrival.

De Guzman is in police custody pending the proper disposition of his case.
