BACOLOD City – A firefighter and a male civilian were wounded in a fire that razed nine houses in Barangay 10 here last Wednesday.

Chief Inspector Publio Ploteña, city fire marshal, said the fire broke out at the house of a certain “Janet Beloya,” around 6:13 a.m.

Ploteña said they had difficulty penetrating the area because of the narrow alleyways.

“Dikit-dikit ang mga balay and made of light materials,” he added.

Ploteña said six houses were destroyed while three others were partially damaged by the fire that was traced to an unattended lighted candle.

Ploteña said the Beloya family reportedly left a candle at their house before they went to the market.

“Wala brownout pero nagsindi sila kandila kay may namatyan kuno sa ila lugar, daw part siguro sang tradition or culture man nila,” he added.

Ploteña said a firefighter was wounded on his face while the civilian was electrocuted when he reportedly climbed up a ladder. Both are already stable, he added.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) declared “fire out” around 7 a.m. The fire gobbled an estimated P150,000 worth of properties.
