BACOLOD City – The city government of Sagay in Negros Occidental extended cash assistance to the two members of the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion (IB) who were wounded in a clash with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) at Sitio Sicaba, Barangay Gawahon, Victorias City in April 2020.
Councilor Roldan Gamao and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Connie Espinosa turned over a check for P50,000 to 79th IB at the City Hall last week.
Military troopers and the 6th Special Action Force Battalion of the Philippine National Police (PNP) clashed with the NPA while conducting community security patrol and information dissemination in connection with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on April 24, 2020.
Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Alvaran, 79th IB commander, thanked the local government unit headed by Mayor Alfredo Marañon III for extending support to the military troopers.
The 79th IB headquarters is stationed in the city.
