ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Approximately 9,332 families in President Roxas, Capiz, who were impacted by Typhoon Ursula, received P5,000 each in financial aid from the National Housing Authority’s Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP).
This initiative, spearheaded by Mayor Receliste Escolin, aims to alleviate the hardships faced since the typhoon struck the province of Capiz in December 2019.
However, the delivery of aid experienced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic which led to enforced lockdowns and restrictions on gatherings in 2020.
NHA Regional Director Hermes Jude Juntilo explained that the assistance distribution was staggered across Region 6 towns, prioritizing areas where the budget had been approved. He cited manpower constraints as a reason for the non-simultaneous releases.
Juntilo emphasized the adherence to strict accounting rules and regulations, which necessitate the liquidation of the first batch of cash assistance before securing further cash advances for subsequent beneficiaries.
The assistance distribution took place at the President Roxas Civic Center from April 2 to 4, 2024, bringing some relief to the typhoon-stricken residents.
