BACOLOD CITY – An unidentified man was found dead in a sugarcane field in Sitio Lemonsito, Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on Thursday.

Police Major Romulo Gepilango, town police chief, said a sugar worker discovered the body after initially mistaking it for a sack.

Upon closer inspection due to a foul odor, the worker saw the victim’s remains.

The man’s head was covered with a shirt, and he sustained seven gunshot wounds to the neck, back, hand, and legs.

Gepilango said authorities have yet to determine the firearm used in the killing.

He added that the victim may have been killed elsewhere and dumped in the sugarcane field, as there was no indication that the crime occurred at the site.

Police have coordinated with other stations to check reports of missing persons in an effort to identify the victim.

Once the victim is claimed by family, investigators can look into his background and possible motives behind the killing, Gepilango said.
