BACOLOD City – The body of an unidentified man was found near a creek in a sugarcane field at Barangay Vista Alegre here Wednesday.
Police Inspector Florentino Abalayan, head of Police Station 7, said the victim suffered injuries on his neck and stomach when found by a resident around 3 p.m.
Abalayan cannot tell if the man succumbed to gunshot wounds, though a witness heard gunfire in the area.
Police recovered an empty shell of .45-caliber ammunition.
Abalayan said a witness saw a man on board a motorcycle when he came out of his house to check where the gunshots came from.
The witness failed to recognize the man’s face.
Abalayan said that there’s a possibility that the motorcycle rider was the perpetrator.
He also said that they cannot determine the motive since they have yet to identify the victim.
It was the third shooting incident that occurred in the said village amid the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) here brought by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Of the three incidents, two resulted in the deaths of two victims.
Abalayan said most of their personnel are focused on the border control check-up points, but they will increase the visibility patrol in the area.
