The University of San Agustin (USA) officially installed Rev. Fr. Arnel S. Dizon, OSA, as its ninth president during a ceremony on August 30, 2024.
The event coincided with the university’s Mass of the Holy Spirit, marking the start of the 2024-2025 academic year.
The installation ceremony, held at the university’s Iloilo campus, was attended by members of the Augustinian community, students, faculty, alumni, and government officials.
Very Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Batayola, OSA, Prior Provincial of the Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, led the mass and the formal installation.
Fr. Dizon’s appointment was read by Rev. Fr. Nestor B. Bandalan, Jr., OSA, Provincial Secretary of the Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu.
The symbolic transfer of leadership was marked by the turnover of the presidential medallion and mace, which represents the university president’s authority and responsibility.
In his inaugural address, Fr. Dizon shared his gratitude and outlined his vision for the university’s future. He emphasized the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and holistic development of students.
“I call on everyone to take one academic year, one challenge, one step at a time, no matter how formidable the way ahead, and let the process prevail for far greater outcomes,” he said.
Fr. Dizon also highlighted the importance of innovation and internationalization, ensuring that the university remains relevant in the evolving educational landscape while maintaining its strong Augustinian roots.
His leadership aims to improve self-sustainability, promote social responsibility, and foster personal growth and spiritual development.
The ceremony also recognized the contributions of outgoing president, Rev. Fr. Frederick C. Comendador, OSA, who served for 12 years. Fr. Comendador expressed his gratitude for the support he received during his presidency and acknowledged the challenges the university overcame under his leadership.
Rev. Fr. Dante O. Juloc, OSA, Superintendent of Schools of the Augustinian Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu, praised the university’s 120-year legacy of serving generations of students, adding, “As we move forward to the future with Fr. Dizon’s guidance and leadership, we anticipate brighter years ahead.”
Under Fr. Dizon’s leadership, the University of San Agustin looks to strengthen its position as a leading institution for academic excellence and holistic formation, shaping future leaders prepared to contribute to society.
