University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) representative, Mr. Elfred John C. Abacan emerged as champion during the 3rd Quiz Bee Regional Elimination spearheaded by the Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Statistical Services Office (PSA RSSO) VI at the RDC Hall, National Economic and Development Authority Regional Office VI, last September 20, 2023.
Thirteen (13) representatives from different Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) member agencies competed in the said event. The competition aimed to reinforce the importance of datadriven decisions and statistical literacy for national development.
The questions for the three rounds were about the Philippine Statistical Systems, PSA products and services, statistical concepts, statistical laws and proclamation, surveys and censuses, civil registration, Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS), Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), and latest data releases of the PSA such as inflation, vital statistics, and gross domestic product.
Accumulating the final scores of 38 points and 36 points, UPV and West Visayas State University (WVSU), bagged the champion title and 2nd place, respectively. Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) took the 3rd place after playing the clincher round with Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Mr. Abacan will be the representative of Western Visayas to the 3rd PSA Quiz Bee National Finals on 05 October 2023 in Metro Manila.
