Organized by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and hosted by PSA Region VI, the event saw fierce competition from 17 top student contestants across Western Visayas, each vying to showcase their statistical knowledge.

In a challenging match, Pogoy’s exceptional performance earned him second place, reflecting his strong grasp of statistical concepts. He was supported by UPV Statistics faculty members, Mr. Jaser John Dago-oc and Dr. Jhoanne Marsh C. Gatpatan, whose mentorship was crucial to his preparation.

In the intense competition, Resh S. Garcia from the Technological University of the Philippines – Visayas emerged as the regional champion and is set to represent Region VI in the national finals in Metro Manila on December 5. Pogoy’s impressive performance for UPV was closely followed by Charles Lawrence B. Benares of Colegio de San Agustin – Bacolod, who secured third place.

The PSQ is an annual competition aimed at promoting statistical literacy and appreciation among Filipino youth, testing students’ knowledge in statistics, probability, and the Philippine census. This year’s PSQ is part of the National Statistics Month celebration, highlighting the role of data and digital transformation in national empowerment.
