The University of the Philippines Visayas School of Technology, or UPV SoTech, has opened the festivities for its 40th founding anniversary in 2026 with the theme, “Fortifying Futures, Forging Legacies.”
SoTech officially kicked off its three-day ruby anniversary celebration with an opening program at the SoTech AV Hall on March 5, 2026.
The school invited BS Food Technology alumna Jovy Garrido, port manager of the Iloilo Fish Port Complex, to speak about her journey from a student who struggled academically to a professional who built a formidable career.
“As I look back on my journey, I am grateful for the foundation laid by our mentors and professors, and the network of classmates and colleagues who have helped shape my professional path,” she said.
Garrido also encouraged students to aim not only for employment after graduation, but also to make an impact in their chosen fields.
“As we commemorate this milestone, we are reminded that our core values remain unchanged — a commitment to academic excellence, innovation, industry partnership, and community service,” she said.
The opening program was attended by UP Visayas Chancellor Clement Camposano, SoTech Dean Johannes M. Magpusao, faculty members, staff, students and former deans of the school.
The anniversary celebration centers on innovation, conversations, camaraderie and milestones.
Activities on the first day included an open house, an exhibit and a fun day.
The second day featured a research forum, a three-minute pitch and ConvEx 12.0.
The celebration will conclude with a stakeholders’ meeting and SoTech Night.
SoTech has continued to position itself as a center for innovation and academic planning within UP Visayas, with the school mapping out its strategic direction for 2025–2027 under Magpusao’s leadership. (Carlson Alelis/IPO)
