An administrative services building will soon rise at the UP Visayas Iloilo City campus.
Its miniature model was unveiled on October 22, 2020, followed by the groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of its construction.
The building was conceived during the administrations of UP Pres. Alfredo Pascual and UPV Chancellor Dr. Rommel Espinosa and was given funding of 25M.
The Chancellor’s Liaison Office, the Information and Publications Office, Legal Office, Health Services Unit, Cash Office, and Supply Office will occupy this structure once it is built.
Meanwhile, the UP Oblation, which was installed on the campus’s Gen. Luna St. side 50 years ago, has been reinstalled in front of the Main Building (Old Iloilo City Hall) facing Delgado St, with a fountain surrounding it.
The Main Building designed by Juan Arellano in the 1930s was recently restored and gloriously frames the statue that symbolizes the national university.
UP Professor Emeritus Grace “Gigi” Alfonso oversaw the Oblation’s re-installation and designed its interactive pedestal.
Alfonso is a painter, a sculptor, a filmmaker, director, film researcher and critic, and a multimedia expert.
The wide cobbled road from Delgado Street gate lined with anahaw palms leading to Oblation Plaza and fountain is UPV’s version of a university avenue.
The canopied benches fronting the College of Management building including the gates along Ybiernas, Delgado, and Infante streets complete the city campus development project supported by UP President Danilo Concepcion who allotted 21M for the project.
Prof. Martin Genodepa, the Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Development, with his team of architects and office staff, oversaw the planning and execution of these campus development milestones to mark UP’s 73 years of presence in Iloilo. (UP Visayas IPO)
