EIGHTY-seven barangays in Capiz were flooded when Tropical Depression Usman hit Western Visayas in December 2018.
The continuous rain due to TD Usman likewise resulted in a landslide incident in barangay San Jose, Jamindan town, according to a PIA report.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Judy Grace Pelaez said 87 villages from 13 municipalities including Roxas City went underwater.
As of January 4, the floodwater in all these barangays has already subsided, Pelaez said.
Pelaez said the sudden rise of floodwater in rivers resulted in the evacuation of 174 families, particularly from the affected barangays in Jamindan, Dumalag, Sigma and Cuartero towns.
She added that a number of roads were not passable to vehicles at the height of the flooding and some schools were not also spared from the flood water.
TD Usman recorded zero casualty in Capiz, she said, thanking the various government agencies as well as non-government organizations, media and volunteer groups that provided help for the safety of the Capiceños.
She said there is an ongoing activity to determine the extent of damage on agriculture because of the flood. (PIA)
