Village dad held for shooting to death drunk man in Antique

A village official in Patnongon, Antique allegedly shot dead a man who allegedly went unruly and tried to attack him evening of July 28.

Barangay Captain Ernesto Onting, 56, of Alvañiz, Patnongon, voluntarily surrendered after the incident.

Police accounts said Onting responded at the crime scene after he received reports that someone was creating alarm and scandal.

The suspect claimed that Jerry Dubria, 32, a resident of Barangay Bawang, San Remegio town but is temporarily residing at Alvañiz village, was acting unruly and that he tried to pacify him.

But as he was trying to placate the victim, the latter attempted to attack him with a bolo.

Onting told investigators that he defended himself from the attack by shooting the victim.

Dubria sustained a gunshot wound on the abdomen.

He was rushed to Bugasong Medicare Community Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The suspect immediately yielded to police authorities, along with the firearm he used in committing the crime.
