Instead of detention, health protocol violators in Iloilo City help beautify the city streets as the Iloilo City government gets a win-win situation in punishing the violators through community service.
16 violators who were caught by compliance officers not wearing face masks in public rendered community service by helping the Iloilo City Government Beautification Program.
The violators planted ornamental plants in the city’s open spaces while others cleaned the city streets as their punishment.
Certificates of completion were given to violators after rendering their services.
Mayor Jerry Treñas stressed that wearing of face masks in public places is mandatory as it is considered one of the precautionary measures to prevent the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“Hopefully our violators learn their lesson, and our community would appreciate the efforts of the city to create a safer and cleaner environment for everyone,” he said in his Facebook page.
Regulation Ordinance (RO) No. 2020-085 has increased the fines of those who will be found violating the mandatory wearing of face masks with face shields, eye protectors or eyeglasses in public places in the metro.
First offense will be fined P1,000 while fines for the 2nd and 3rd offenses are P2,000 and P5,000 respectively.
Violators may opt for community service of eight hours for three consecutive days.
The health protocols were imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19. (ERS)
