Virtual storytelling goes on

The Iloilo City Public Library (ICPL) online storytelling sessions via its Facebook page are still on-going.

“This project is for the service of our Ilonggo kids. Mayor Jerry Treñas said we will not deprive children of education and at the same time, their leisure,” stressed City Librarian Marion Aguirre.

The weekly activity started in April amidst community quarantine when children are at home.

“The purpose of this initiative is to enhance children’s skills at home and to encourage them to read. While reading, you are also educating yourself and enjoying. You are giving them pleasure to read,” Aguirre said.

It is a two-way exercise of storytelling, and sing and dance combination.

“I am also a mother who reads stories to my children so, why not share it to others?” said Aguirre.

Mothers thanked ICPL for the videos which their children watched several times.

A private elementary school library also shared the ICPL-produced videos on their FB page. (Alexandra Jover/Iloilo City PIO)
