In line with the observance of National Heroes Day today, August 26, the Iloilo Commission on Elections (COMELEC) emphasized that voter participation in elections is a heroic act.
“Continuing voter registration on a holiday is our way of showing commitment. We believe this is a heroic act because it helps people exercise their right to vote, which might be forgotten otherwise,” said Regional Election Director Dennis Ausan in a recent press conference.
He stressed that by participating in the registration process, individuals are contributing to the future of the country.
“The fact that people came to register makes them part of a significant process, which takes on greater meaning during National Heroes Day,” Ausan added.
The COMELEC confirmed that voter registration will continue as scheduled. For further details, the public is encouraged to visit the official COMELEC website.
National Heroes Day, established under Republic Act 9492 in 2007, is commemorated every last Monday of August. It honors all Filipino heroes and marks the start of the Philippine Revolution against Spanish rule in August 1896.
