W. Visayas’ COVID-19 tally reaches 3.5k mark

Western Visayas now has 3,555 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases as of Aug 24, 2020, according to the latest report by the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WV CHD).

The tally includes 1,971 active cases or patients who are still in isolation or confinement.

In a press conference on Monday, Dr. Ma. Jocelyn Te of DOH-WV CHD confirmed 115 new COVID-19 cases in the region.

“We have released a total of 888 laboratory test results from our six Sub-National and Molecular Laboratories. Of these, we have recorded 115 new confirmed cases,” Te said.

This latest batch of new cases are composed of 104 local cases and 11 Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF).

Iloilo City posted the highest number of new cases with 41, followed by Bacolod City and Iloilo province with 20 new cases each, Negros Occidental with 10, Capiz province with 7, and Guimaras with 6.

Ninety new cases were asymptomatic (no symptoms), while 21 have Influenza-Like Illness and 4 with Severe Acute Respiratory Illness.

Seven new recovered cases were also reported, with 5 cases from Iloilo province and 2 from Capiz province.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in the region to 1,530.

One new COVID-19 death was reported, a 46-year-old male from Pontevedra, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 3499), who died on Aug 20.

The region now has 54 deaths.

 

CLUSTERING

The DOH-WV CHD also updated on the clustering of cases in the barangays of the region.

Iloilo City had the highest number of barangays with clustered cases with 44 barangays, followed by Negros Occidental with 33 in 13 municipalities, Iloilo province with 15 in 7 municipalities, Guimaras with 4 along 2 municipalities, and Antique and Capiz provinces with 1 barangay each.
