BACOLOD City – A couple wanted for infanticide was arrested by police in Barangay Patic, Pulupandan, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.
Arrested were a 23-year-old man and his 22-year-old live-in partner, both residents of the said village.
Police Captain Emman Anacleto, town police chief, said the man is the Top 1 most wanted person in the town, while the woman is in the second spot.
Anacleto said the man was the first to be arrested. He then told the police of his live-in partner’s location.
The arrest warrant with no bail recommended was issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 62 in Bago City on Feb. 2, 2022.
Anacleto said the case was filed after the couple allegedly buried alive their one-day-old baby boy in a public cemetery in the town in August 2022.
A few minutes later, a gravedigger heard a baby crying and when he checked the tomb, he saw the baby placed inside a box.
The baby was already pale and turning purple. The gravedigger brought him to the hospital, but he passed away the following day.
Anacleto said the couple was identified through the statement of their neighbors.
Anacleto said the couple alleged that they presumed that the baby was already dead, the reason why they buried him.
Anacleto said the couple had lapses and committed a violation, as they did not bring the baby to a hospital or clinic.
The baby was the couple’s second child.
