Wanted man nabbed despite resisting cops

BACOLOD City – A suspect tagged in a series of theft and robbery incidents here was arrested Monday following a shootout with police at Barangay 2.

Police Major Sherlock Gabana, head of Police Station 2, identified the suspect as Randy Rendon, 37, of the said village.

Police operatives armed with an arrest warrant for theft issued by Judge Remegio V. Rojo of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) Branch 5 here searched for Rendon at the said village.

But when they were about to serve the warrant, the suspect resisted and allegedly fired an improvised .9mm-caliber pistol at the cops.

The suspect ran and a brief chase followed until he was cornered by the police. No injuries were reported.

Authorities recovered from Rendon a caliber .9mm pistol, a magazine with four live ammunition, three sachets of suspected shabu worth P112,000, foreign money, a cellular phone, and P600 cash.

The court set a P10,000 bail for his provisional liberty but he is in even dire straits for resisting arrest.

Gabana said it was their third attempt to serve the warrant to Rendon who was reputed to be slippery until his arrest.

Aside from the theft cases, Rendon also allegedly engaged in the illegal drug trade as a courier, the station commander said, adding that the suspect’s brother was also arrested for the same offense.

Following his arrest, some complainants positively identified him as the same person who victimized them in the areas of Police Station 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8.

Rendon will be facing additional charges for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, and illegal possession of dangerous drugs. He will also be charged for his previous theft offenses, Gabana said.

He is detained at the said police station.
