Water shortage looms over Iloilo City, three towns

By Francis Allan L. Angelo

Parts of Iloilo City and the towns of Leganes, Pavia, and Sta. Barbara will suffer low water pressure and even zero supply starting May 16, 2022 as one of the bulk water suppliers of Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) and Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) will cease its deliveries on May 15.

In a press statement, MIWD said it received a letter from Flo Water of Ilonggo businessman Rogelio Florete “giving notice that it will CEASE to deliver Bulk water effective 11:59 PM of May 15, 2022.”

Because of this, MPIW customers in Leganes, Barangay Pagsanga-an and Anilao in Pavia, Jaro, LaPaz, and Lapuz districts in Iloilo City, and some parts of Sta. Barbara will experience low pressure to no water starting May 16 until further notice.

MPIW will also implement rotational water supply interruption at a 12-hour interval, from 3 am to 3 pm, in the affected areas.

The water utility will deploy static tanks to strategic areas where water pressure is unavailable during the rotational scheme.

Schedules and advisories per area will be posted via MPIW and MIWD’s social media platforms, print, SMS announcements, and radio broadcasts.

MIWD and MPIW apologizes for the temporary inconvenience and rest assured that their team is working diligently to minimize the impact of this situation.
