We’re not heroes.
Today, Daily Guardian crested 100,000 likes on Facebook. Since we started in April of 2019 at 16,000+ likes, that gives us a growth rate of 625% in a period of 14 months. This we have done with innovation and new platforms.
However, at the core of what we do is telling the stories that matter, giving voices to the voiceless. We put a lot of focus on bringing the right stories to light, to fight for the right advocacies.
I have several superhero action figures in my room above my computer where I work and where I study. I look at them and they remind me to always do what I can to help, to do good. I won’t say we’re heroes like the many figures here in my room, but we do our best to do the right thing, to do as much good as we can. I study law because I want to do as much good as I can. That’s the answer I gave when ANC asked me back in 2017.
That’s what Daily Guardian has tried to do. We stood for Press Freedom when ABS-CBN was shutdown. We joined calls to junk the Anti-Terrorism Bill. We aired the pleas of OFWs who were sick and hungry in Manila in order for them to return home. We’re launching a Mental Health Webinar this Monday entitled #MentalHealthMondays with Agubayani. We created #DailyGuardianInitiative to provide platforms for stories like Muslim Filipinos by Qapwa, Reshaping Iloilo’s future by Global Shapers Iloilo Hub, and the SDG’s by 2030 Youth Force in the Philippines Inc. among others.
Daily Guardian has become more than a family business to me as I have poured my heart and soul into it because I believed we could do so much good. We have been blessed to have this much growth, but we all have to start somewhere. We started doing as much good as we could long before we had a Facebook page.
We are happy that we have reached 100,000 likers and we continue to grow. Thank you. But what gives us the pride to wear our colors and our logo is the fact that we do our best to do the right thing, that we try to do the most good that we can.
We’re not heroes.
But we do our best to follow their examples.
“It is not enough just to be good. We must be good for something. We must contribute good to the world. The world must be a better place for our presence. And the good that is in us must be spread to others.” – Gordon B. Hinckley
