The Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Statistical Services Office VI (PSA RSSO VI) hosted the Workshop on the Finalization of Non-benchmark Estimates for the Provinces and Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs) of the 16 Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) Pilot Regions in Iloilo City on 9 to 13 October 2023.
The workshop was participated in by representatives from PSA Central Office and 16 regional offices nationwide except National Capital Region (NCR).
As a mechanism to measure the economic performance of the province or HUC at a given time, PPA will answer the increasing demand for local-level statistics. Relative to this, the PSA conducted series of briefings, field data collection and consolidation, consultation and training workshops, field visits, dissemination fora, and assessments over the year.
With the recently conducted workshop focusing on the finalization and validation of the preliminary estimates, PSA is a step closer to releasing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 81 provinces and 17 HUCs from years 2018 to 2022 by the end of the 2023.
The roadmap of PPA started in 2021 with MIMAROPA, Central Visayas, and Northern Mindanao releasing their PPA from years 2018 to 2020.
In the following year, Western Visayas, along with five other regions, was added as pilot regions.
In 2023, the compilation was expanded to include 35 provinces, and four HUCs from seven additional pilot regions.
Meanwhile, NCR will start their compilation in 2024. The PSA aims to institutionalize the PPA in all provinces and HUCs of the 17 regions in the Philippines by 2025.
In Western Visayas, the GDP of the six provinces and two HUCs will be released through a series of dissemination fora from 28 November to 4 December 2023.
The full report, statistical tables, and visuals on the GDP release, will be available at our website at rsso06.psa.gov.ph or at the PSA Regional and Provincial offices.
