More motorists and road users going to Don Salvador Benedicto and neighboring cities and towns in northern Negros Occidental will be accommodated with the bridge widening project implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Undertaken by DPWH-Negros Occidental Sub District Engineering Office, the ₱10-million project involves widening of the 15.1-lineal-meter Ansoan Bridge in Brgy. Pandanon from 2 to 4 lanes, to complement the ongoing widening of Bacolod-Murcia-Don Salvador Benedicto-San Carlos City Road.
Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said the widened bridge will facilitate faster mobility of vehicles and will cater more vehicles including big trucks and busses plying along this major thoroughfare.
“Bridge widening is essential to ensure maximum capacity of our roads and to avoid congestion and bottlenecks especially when the road is already widened. Hence, the widening of Ansoan Bridge is timely as we are currently undertaking widening activities in various sections of the road from Bacolod City to San Carlos City, traversing the towns of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto,” Bueno said.
This project will accommodate a bigger number of vehicles, provide smoother traffic flow, and promote safer and faster mobility of our motorists and the traveling public from one place to another,” Bueno added.
Other than the mobility of people, RD Bueno said that the widening project will help boost the tourism industry in northern Negros Occidental as better and improved transportation access will encourage more tourists to visit various destinations in the area.
This will eventually stir economic development, providing people with more opportunities for livelihood development. This will likewise enhance local trade and economic activities in the area. (DPWH-6)
