A woman cheated death after her estranged husband allegedly shot but missed her in Sara, Iloilo, evening of August 16, 2021.
The unnamed complainant told police authorities that her husband, 42-year-old Hadje Cubid, went to her house at Barangay Anoring, Sara.
Major Jose Nemias Pamplona, Sara police chief, said Cubid was drunk when the incident happened.
He was already unruly the moment he entered the woman’s house. They immediately engaged in a verbal tussle.
The couple has a 13-year-old daughter and their six-year relationship has been on-and-off. They are no longer living together and Cubid is already dating someone else.
“We are not certain what triggered the confrontation. It is possible that Cubid got jealous,” Pamplona said.
At the height of their argument, the suspect drew a handgun and allegedly shot the victim but he missed.
A neighbor claimed to have heard gunfire and reported the incident to police authorities.
Cubid was arrested after police found a caliber .38 revolver loaded with four ammunition from his possession.
He told police authorities that he intentionally missed hitting his wife.
But the woman insisted that he intended to hurt her with the gun.
Pamplona said Cubid would be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), RA 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004), and attempted homicide.
