Dr. Fille Claudine Cainglet was still in her scrubs as she was announced as the Chooks-to-Go Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) first pick.
In a virtual draft organized by the league, the Filipina doctor made history after being selected first overall in the first professional basketball league for the women’s category.
At the age of 32, Dr. Cainglet was drafted first by the team Glutagence under the guidance and supervision of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB).
Cainglet also revealed that while watching the virtual draft, she was still in the UERM hospital and was performing an operation in the operating room after getting her name called as the top overall pick.
“Thank you WNBL! Literal nagtatahi ako dito sa OR habang umiiyak,” said the former quick guard from the University of the Philippines.
Backstopping Cainglet are the “Splash Sisters” in Camille Claro and Khate Castillo selected by Glutagence in the second and third round of the draft.
Present during the WNBL virtual draft were Games and Amusements Board officials’ chairman Baham Mitra, pro basketball chief JUN Bautista and assistant chiefs Jackie Lou Cacho-Ornido and Rodil Manaog.
