Woman hurt in ‘lato-lato’ attack

From being a toy, the trending lato-lato or clackers became a weapon for a drunk man who allegedly attacked his lady drinking buddy.

The incident, which happened evening of January 19 in Kalibo, Aklan, left 44-year-old Rowena Gaspar wounded on the back of her head.

Gaspar claimed that she was talking to another person when suspect Jonaliz Cabiao butted in.

They were at the house of their neighbor, Elsa Adiong, at Oyotorong St., Poblacion, Kalibo when the incident happened.

Out of nowhere, Gaspar said Cabiao hurled invectives at her and told her that she should not get herself involved.

She snapped back at the suspect with the same words.

This allegedly irked Cabiao, who immediately picked up a stone and threw it at her.

Gaspar said she went in Cabiao’s direction to confront him.

But when she got near him, Cabiao struck her head with a lato-lato.

Gaspar said the strike caused her head to bleed.

Meanwhile, the Kalibo Municipal Police Station said the incident was reported to them at 8:20 a.m. on June 21.

The case was subsequently referred to the barangay lupon of Poblacion, Kalibo for resolution.

Gaspar said that she is open for settlement provided that the suspect would cover her medical bills.
