BACOLOD CITY — A 31-year-old woman sustained injuries in a gas explosion in Barangay Tinampa-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on December 31, just hours before New Year’s Eve.
Fire Officer 3 Rolly Quiatchon, an arson investigator with the Cadiz City Fire Station, said the explosion occurred while the victim was refilling a butane canister around 8 p.m., triggering a fire.
The woman suffered burns on both legs and was referred to another hospital for treatment.
The fire completely destroyed the house and caused an estimated PHP60,000 in damage.
Authorities declared the fire out at 8:45 p.m.
In a separate incident early the following day, a fire broke out in Barangay Sicaba, Cadiz City, at approximately 12:20 a.m. on January 1.
The blaze destroyed one house but caused no injuries.
Quiatchon said investigators are still determining the cause of the fire, which resulted in PHP45,000 in damages.
The fire was extinguished after 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, in Bacolod City, an unidentified man was found dead in Barangay Singcang-Airport on New Year’s Day.
According to the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), the victim was allegedly speeding on a motorcycle when he lost control and fell.
He struck his head on a rock, leading to his death, police said.
As of January 2, the victim has not been identified, according to Police Lt. Col. Ramel Sarona, TEU head.
