A 46-year-old woman was detained after she allegedly assaulted a village official during a dispute hearing afternoon of Jan. 7 in Ajuy, Iloilo.

Darlyn Joy Amante allegedly bit the right index finger of Barangay Captain Girly Amante, 50.

The incident happened at the barangay hall of Tagubanhan Island, Ajuy.

Darlyn was summoned for a possible settlement after Chembelyn Amante filed a complaint over her Facebook posts.

Girly, Darlyn, and Chambelyn’s husband are cousins.

Lieutenant Randy Lambungan, Ajuy police chief, said other barangay officials were present during the dispute hearing.

But both camps did not reach a settlement. Darlyn allegedly refused and resisted and even uttered profanities at Girly.

Police reports said the victim pacified Darlyn by pushing her out of the hall.

It was at that juncture that the suspect grabbed the victim’s hand and bit her right index finger.

The victim was taken to Sara District Hospital for treatment while the suspect was jailed.

Lambungan said Darlyn might be charged with direct assault.
