BACOLOD City – A woman died while her husband was wounded in a multiple vehicular accident in Barangay Patic, Pulupandan, Negros Occidental last Saturday.

Police identified the fatality as Lilibeth Arandilla, 48, of Barangay Pacol, Bago City.

Wounded was her husband Danilo, 46, of Barangay Pacol.

Captain Emman Anacleto, Pulupandan police chief, said the couple was on board a tricycle driven by Danilo when they slowed down upon seeing from afar a 10-wheeler truck loaded with sugarcane that was trying to avoid a tree branch.

But a public utility jeepney (PUJ) that was tailing the tricycle hit the latter after the PUJ driver failed to notice that the tricycle had stopped.

Anacleto said the tricycle then swerved causing Lilibeth to be thrown off and fall into the truck’s lane.

The truck then ran over Lilibeth who died on the spot.

Anacleto said the PUJ was loaded with eight passengers, including its conductor, but they were all unharmed.

“May kadasigon man siguro ining jeep,” he added.

Anacleto said the PUJ driver voluntarily surrendered to the police.

Danilo Arandilla suffered minor injuries and was already discharged from a hospital yesterday.

He said they are waiting for the decision of Lilibeth’s husband on whether to file a case or not against the truck and PUJ drivers, who are now under police custody.
