A 36-year-old woman and her male companion were arrested for allegedly conspiring to sell illegal drugs in a sting operation on the afternoon of April 2 in Jaro, Iloilo City.

Alias Hazel, 36, and alias Nonoy, 41, a mini-bus driver from Palaypay, Anilao, Iloilo, were apprehended at the woman’s rented home on 7th Street, Lawaan Village, Barangay Balantang, Jaro.

Operatives of the Iloilo City Police Office–City Drug Enforcement Unit (ICPO-CDEU), in coordination with the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU) 6 and the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group, conducted the buy-bust operation.

Police said the suspects sold a sachet of suspected shabu for PHP5,500 to an undercover agent.

Following their arrest, authorities recovered four knot-tied plastic bags and 25 more sachets of suspected shabu from the premises.

Capt. Ryan Christ Inot, ICPO-CDEU team leader, said the seized drugs weighed approximately 350 grams and were valued at PHP2.38 million.

He said Hazel, a newly identified drug personality, was the primary target of the operation.

While the suspects denied any romantic relationship, Nonoy was often seen visiting Hazel’s residence.

In some instances, he reportedly referred friends and colleagues to Hazel to buy drugs.

Inot said Hazel came under surveillance after several residents reported suspicious activity at her home.

Motorcycle riders, taxi drivers, and private vehicle owners were frequently spotted gathering outside her house.

Residents also complained that she hosted frequent private parties.

Police said neither suspect had any prior drug-related arrest.

The two are now in custody and will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
