World no. 1 ranked male tennis player Jannik Sinner won’t be seeing action in the lawn tennis tournament of the Paris Olympics confirmed on July 25, 2024.

It was Sinner who announced the major development on his official social media account, stating that he would sit out the prestigious Olympic games due to tonsillitis.

Sinner added that his doctor strongly advised that he will have to take rest and stay away from any physical activities.

For Sinner, it is a huge disappointment as representing Italy in the world’s most prestigious sporting event is one of his main goals this 2024.

Initially, Sinner was supposed to play both the singles and doubles categories in Paris and was seeded as no. 1 in his pet event.

Sinner and his partner Lorenzo Musetti were also hailed as the no. 1 pairing in the tournament and became the early favorites to win the gold medal in Paris.

His abrupt withdrawal from the Italian men’s tennis national team will leave a huge void, as the organization heavily relied on his availability to help them win more gold medals.

In the singles category, Sinner will be replaced by world no. 207 ranked Andrea Vavassori and Luciano Darderi in the doubles event.

“After a good week of clay training, I started to feel unwell. I spent a couple of days resting and during a visit the doctor found tonsillitis and strongly advised me against playing,” Sinner posted.

With Sinner not in the main draw anymore, the Paris Olympic committee slated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz of Spain as the tournament’s top-seeded players.
