Wounded fireman involved in fatal stabbing of colleague dies

BACOLOD City – A fireman who was seriously injured, following a fatal stabbing incident involving his colleague last December, died on the day of his birthday yesterday.

Chief Inspector Publio Ploteña, head of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Bacolod, confirmed on Thursday the death of Fire Officer 3 Cornelio Silva, chief of the investigation division of the BFP. He was 55.

Ploteña said Silva died yesterday morning while he was confined at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital here for almost two weeks.

Silva was seriously wounded when he was allegedly stabbed by Fire Officer 3 Isaac Cabana, who was also allegedly stabbed by the former during their Christmas party last December 23, 2019.

The two firemen were having a drinking session when a commotion ensued between them.

Cabana, who sustained a lone stab wound on the neck was declared dead at a hospital while Silva expired at the hospital after 11 days due to two stab wounds on the back and stomach.

Ploteña and other colleagues, through a Facebook post expressed their condolences to Silva’s family and expressed their gratitude for the service he rendered in the bureau.
