Hundreds were arrested in Western Visayas as Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) heightened its operations against wanted persons.

As of July 30, PRO-6 reported that 727 wanted persons were arrested by different police units and national support units for the months of June and July.

Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, PRO-6 spokesperson, said that 45 arrested persons were considered “topmost wanted” or those who have been ranked in the most wanted list.

On the other hand, 682 are deemed as “other wanted persons.”

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) topped the list on arrest of most wanted persons with 21.

Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) arrested 14; Capiz PPO with 4; Aklan PPO and Bacolod City PO with 2 each; and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 6 (CIDG-6) with one each.

For other wanted persons, NOCPPO registered 366 arrests while Iloilo province tailed at 142.

Capiz province made 52 arrests; Aklan and Antique provinces with 25 each; Bacolod City with 24; Iloilo City with 21; Guimaras with 18; CIDG-6 with 6; and RFMB with 3.

Gorero said arresting wanted persons is important in their anti-criminality campaign.

“It’s one less criminal out of the street,” he said.

If they could post bail, justice would now grind for those who were oppressed, he added.

“It’s our mandate to bring those who violated the law to justice. And we could do that arresting persons who were accused of breaching the law,” Gorero said.

But aside from running against wanted persons, Gorero assured that the PNP has also been in going after other illegal activities in the region.
