BACOLOD City – Police are probing if a young man, who was found dead in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Murcia, Negros Occidental yesterday, had links to a theft incident in the said village last week.

Police Major Joeil Reclamado, town police chief, said the victim identified as John Paul Gayte, 21, of Barangay Alijis here, was found in a grassy lot with solar lights on top of his body, about a week after some solar lights were reportedly stolen in the said village on May 29.

Reclamado said they are checking if the victim might be one of the persons who allegedly stole 11 solar lights and destroyed the poles in the said village last week.

“Wala ta pa mabal-an ang motive, or if may link siya sa natabo na kawatay solar lights ligad,” he added.

Reclamado said the victim had previous theft cases here, based on information from Police Station 7, which covers Barangay Alijis.

Authorities have yet to determine the injuries he suffered.

Meanwhile, Reclamado said they already have persons of interest in relation to the theft incident.

He added that three unidentified persons were reportedly seen leaving the area on board a motorcycle.
