Youngest patient in WV overcomes COVID-19

A 22-year-old patient from the town of Miag-ao in Iloilo province – the youngest case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Western Visayas – overcame Covid-19, the Department of Health-Center for Health Development in Western Visayas (DOH-CHD)-6 confirmed on Monday.

Based on Case Bulletin No. 18 issued by DOH-CHD 6 on Monday, the patient is the seventh person to recover in the region from Covid-19.

“We have seven recoveries so far. The latest is WV Patient No. 12 who is from Miag-ao, Iloilo. She has already recovered from Covid-19,” Dr. Sophia Pulmones spokesperson of DOH-CHD 6 said in a press briefing on Monday.

According to Miag-ao Mayor Macario Napulan, the patient from Miag-ao was negative in her repeat swab test and already went home last Saturday.

“Fully recovered na siya. Ang 2nd and 3rd swab test niya negative na sa virus and nagpuli na siya sa ila balay last Saturday,” Napulan said in a text message.

The mayor said he advised the patient to undergo another 14-day of self-quarantine in her home.

Meanwhile, Pulmones said the first four patients to be diagnosed with COVID-19 in the region have also recovered.

They are WV Patient No. 1 from Bacolod City; WV Patient No. 2 from Guimbal, Iloilo province; WV Patient No. 3 from Mandurriao, Iloilo City; and WV Patient No. 4 from Jamindan, Capiz.

Moreover, WV Patient No. 9 from Bacolod City and WV Patient No. 15 of E. B. Magalona in Negros Occidental have also recovered from COVID-19.

As of April 12, no additional COVID-19 cases were recorded in the region as all the 19 laboratory results tested negative for the virus.

The total COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas remain at 40 with seven deaths.
