POWERHOUSE teams across the country will clash in the Victor C. Plagata Cup Season 14 volleyball tournament, which kicks off today, May 1, 2019, at the Bingawan Civic Center.
17 teams in secondary girls and men’s open divisions will see action in the four-day tournament organized by the local government unit (LGU) of Bingawan.
The Philippine Navy and Philippine Army will lead the casts in the men’s open category. The two national teams will face Bingawan Team, Negros Team, Central Philippine University (CPU), Bingawan National High School (BNHS), Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion, Angels Team Pavia, and Lambunao.
In the secondary girls, seven teams will try to snatch the title after the unavailability of defending champ Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) as they are competing in the 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City.
The competing teams in the girls’ category are Livingstones International School, CPU Golden Lions, Ateneo de Iloilo, La Paz National High School, Iloilo Doctors College, Bingawan National High School and Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion.
Mayor Mark Palabrica said Plagata Cup is not just for entertainment and excitement.
“If you look beyond the lines, you will see the real essence of this event and favorable advantages that will help the players to develop a sense of responsibility, sportsmanship and discipline. It could also deflect the youths interest away from temptations and vices that could ruin their future,” he added.
The annual volleyball event is sponsored and made possible by the Plagata family in cooperation with the municipal government.
