No excuses. All forms of unsanctioned gambling remain illegal.
This is what the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) stressed following the arrest of 15 persons who allegedly engaged in illegal gambling in the region over the weekend.
The suspects were arrested in three different police operations in the city and province of Iloilo and Aklan.
At around 1:15 p.m. of July 26, 2020, police collared Hermogenes Elizalde, 57, and Tomas Eugerio, 37, both residents of Barangay San Ambrosio, Igbaras, Iloilo.
Arresting police officers said the two were caught in the middle of a cockfight. Their other companions were quick to scamper and elude arrest.
Police recovered from the scene four heads of live roosters while Elizalde and Eugerio yielded P100 cash each.
Meanwhile, members of the Iloilo City Police Station 5 arrested 11 persons 12 pm Saturday at Barangay Airport, Mandurriao district.
Police seized 11 fighting cocks, P3,430 bet money, and a box containing gaffs and other cockfighting materials.
In Aklan, police arrested Kim Rubio, 37, and Jecky Rubio, 22, both residents of Barangay Bulabud, Malinao town.
Malinao policemen, who were on mobile patrol, caught them in a cockfight 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Barangay Rosario, Malinao.
Recovered from the area were two live fighting cocks, 3 gaff cases, 10 gaffs, P3,706.50 bet money, a mobile phone, and a belt bag.
All suspects will be charged for violation of Presidential Decree 449 (Cockfighting Law of 1974).
