2 jail officers, 2 others rescued after boat capsizes in San Carlos

BACOLOD City – Four persons, including two jail officers were rescued after their boat capsized along the waters of Barangay 3, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

Rescued were Jail Inspector Ian Carl Niaga, 38, head of San Carlos City Jail, and personnel Jail Officer 1 Michael Oliver Facio, 32, Antonio Yonson, 41, and boat owner Romeo Mabilog, 74.

Lieutenant Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Negros Occidental, said the victims went fishing around 9:30 a.m. when the motorized vessel was hit by big waves.

Benjamin said some fishermen who passed by them helped the victims and called for assistance.

All the victims were unharmed but Mabilog was taken to a hospital due to hypertension. He was discharged later.
