TWENTY-EIGHT competitors took part in the 2-day Regional Skills Competition (RSC) of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) held at the Regional Training Center (RTC) Iloilo Activity Area.
The contestants are from public and private Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) providers and TESDA Technology Institutes (TTIs)
The event aims to create greater awareness of the importance of TVET and the development of skills, locally and globally.
RSC chair Norberto N. Nuñal said the two-day skills competition featured 10 trade areas that are critical sectors in generating employment – Cooking, Electrical Installation Technology, Electronics, Fashion Technology, Hairdressing, IT Network Administration, Joinery, Restaurant Service, Welding Technology, and Automobile Technology.
In his opening message, TESDA Aklan Provincial Director Joel M. Villagracia challenged the competitors and experts to aim for the gold and bring back the glory days of Region 6 when it became the overall champion in the Philippine National Skills Competition (PNSC) held in 1995.
TESDA Regional Director Ashary A. Banto said the competition is an avenueto showcase skills excellence of technical-vocational graduates and young industry skilled workers of the region.
“Aim for excellence, aim for gold. Ipakita ang galing ng Region 6,” he added.
Those who will win at the regional level will be representingthe region in the PNSC to be held in KorPhil Vocational Training Center, Davao and will be preparing for the 2020 ASEAN Skills Competition in Singapore. (TESDA-6)
