31 Bacolod barangays COVID-free for 14 days

Bacolod City – Thirty-one of the 61 barangays in the city are considered “COVID- free” in the past 14 days or more according to the Bacolod City Emergency Operations Center- Task Force (EOC-TF) in its report Thursday.

These barangays are 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 31, 33, 34, 36, 37, 38, 41, Sum-ag, and Punta Taytay.

City Administrator Em Ang, executive director and deputy for admin and operations of the EOC-TF said, “This is a big improvement because last month we still had 78 percent of our barangays with active cases, now it’s down to 49 percent.”

“I hope that this will continue and it will result to further decline in the active cases in the City. We are expecting for more barangays to be COVID- free,” Ang added.

On November 3, Ang said the EOC reported that 28 Bacolod barangays were considered “COVID-free” in a two-week period.

Councilor Lady Gles Pallen, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, said she is thankful for the efforts of barangay officials and members who are fighting on the ground.

Pallen reiterated what Secretary Roy Cimatu said when he visited the Bacolod EOC last September that the fight against COVID-19 is ultimately at the grassroots where the barangay captains play the major leadership role.

“We have to bring the battle to the barangays as we hunt down the virus in every home, office or store,” she added.

Pallen is reminding both barangay officials and Bacolodnons, “Let us continue our cooperation with the government and sustain our efforts towards a COVID-free Bacolod.”
