BACOLOD City – The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (ID) recognized the exemplary combat accomplishments of 40 soldiers and two members of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu), following two clashes with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on October 1.

Major General Benedict Arevalo, 3ID commander, led the pinning of Military Merit Medals during his visit at the 94th IB headquarters in Ayungon, Negros Oriental last Wednesday.

The awardees were composed of two officers, 38 soldiers, and two Cafgu members.

They engaged in a firefight with the NPAs in Barangay Carabalan and Barangay Buenavista, where they discovered the enemies’ hideout and seized two high-powered firearms and other war materials.

“Our men deserve to be recognized for their efforts and sacrifices especially in combat,” Arevalo said.

Arevalo also said that he has full confidence that the soldiers will have more victories against the NPA and accomplish its mission in Central Negros.
